Meet the Founder
Born and raised in Southwest Washington, D.C., I've always enjoyed connecting with people, pouring into others, and bringing positive energy wherever I go. My bubbly personality, sense of humor, and genuine love for people have always been a big part of who I am. As a mother, wellness professional, and community-minded individual, I've found purpose in building meaningful relationships and creating spaces where people feel supported, encouraged, and empowered.
My first career was in dentistry, where I've spent more than 13 years helping patients improve their oral health while educating them on the importance of preventive care and healthy habits. Years later, I discovered a passion for fitness and became a Certified Personal Trainer, Pilates Instructor, and Corrective Exercise Specialist. While these careers may seem different, they both stem from the same purpose: helping people better understand their health and take an active role in caring for themselves.
Life eventually challenged me in ways I never expected. Through seasons of significant loss, including the loss of both of my parents, I found myself navigating grief, depression, change, and some of the most difficult moments of my life.
During that time, fitness became more than exercise. Movement became a tool that helped me process emotions, rebuild confidence, strengthen my mindset, and continue moving forward one day at a time.
What began as a personal journey of healing, growth, and resilience would eventually evolve into something much bigger than myself. It was through those seasons of grief, rebuilding, and self-discovery that Layers by Donice was born.
The Purpose Behind Layers
Layers by Donice was built for people navigating different seasons of life. So often, we tell ourselves we'll start our wellness journey when life slows down. But the truth is, life doesn't stop. There will be seasons of stress, grief, growth, change, and uncertainty—seasons where you're simply trying to make it through the day. That's why Layers was built on the belief that you don't have to have everything figured out before you start taking care of yourself. You don't have to ignore your experiences, pretend everything is okay, or wait for the perfect time to begin. Layers is designed to meet you where you are. Through strength training, Pilates, corrective exercise, journaling, and community fitness experiences, Layers provides tools that support both physical and personal growth. Fitness is not the answer to every challenge, but it can be a powerful tool for building strength, confidence, discipline, self-awareness, and a stronger connection to yourself. You don't have to be fully built before you begin. Growth doesn't happen all at once. The life you're building starts with the step you take today.
